#HAPi x Ghost Mountain Field @ghostmountainfield – Artist Residency   「對我來說藝術創作是⼀個溝通的語⾔,所以在表達⾃⼰的時候,能夠明⽩接收者對主題的 理解也很重要。」畢業於倫敦⼤學⾦匠學院藝術系,並於 City and Guilds of London Art School ‘Cold’ @joshuasusu & Limited Edition Print Release by @ghostmountainfield     Unique fashion pieces creation in #HAPi store https://hapi-fish.com/pages/hapi-x-ghost-mountain-field-fashion       Organizations: @hapi.fish / Gallery HZ @gallery__hz til 20th Nov 2020 10:00am – 7:00pm (Full day) 【 #HAPi 】 地址:上環普仁街11號2-4號地舖 Address: Shop 2-4, G/F, No.11 Po Yan Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong RSVP: No RSVP, open to public

“BEAUTIFYING THE WOLRD IS WHAT I WANT TO DO” — GEN Z TATTOO ARTIST CLARA JADE

In the forever-changing world with lots of variables, the insistence of aesthetic is essential. Besides demanding for beauty, Clara Jade, a Gen Z tattoo artist, also has her own perception of happiness. Age is never a standard to measure one’s maturity and sometimes, being a 24-year-old girl can be quite insightful.  Happiness is an emotion in a fluid form To Clara, happiness is an emotion in a fluid form. “It could be on the lowest level of happiness on the day before yesterday and became 10 on yesterday. Today should be around 6 to 7 while emotion is mostly influenced by weather” Being happy doesn’t need a special reason but rainy days, family and puppies never fail to keep her happy and feel less anxious as well. “ If I want to soothe my nerves, I will practice yoga or take my dog for a walk in the beach or dog park. My mood will be boosted when I see it having fun.”   When asked about the happiest moment in her life, she recalled the trip to Malaysia when she was young. “We went to a mangrove forest and we attached a plastic bottle to the boat and threw it to the sea before getting on board. We watched the sunset on the boat in the evening with the scene of my parents’ kissing. After departure, we picked up the bottle and there were two huge crabs inside it. We ate them at dinner, and it was the best day of my life.” The purest form of joy is often found in the fragment of our memories.  Refuse to be a “normal person” “I struggled a lot before deciding to be a tattoo artist.” Even though Clara looks like a person who has no boundaries for herself, she was once a prisoner of the traditional value. “ We are taught that we will not be able to get a decent job if we do not get a degree which cannot reach the general standard of the society.“ These days, toddlers are sent to schools once they learn to walk, playing piano is considered as “basic” skill. It seems like we will never meet the expectations of the society no matter how hard we try. Even if you clearly know that this concept is ridiculous, you can’t escape from it. It is doubtful if those standards are valid to judge a person? “I want to beautify the world.” Since Clara was young, she has been deeply attracted by tattoo art. With her perception of beauty, she took the risk by dropping out of uni at year two and gave up the idea of being a normal person. She eventually began her art career path when she started learning to ink. “Even if I make breakfast or painting, I will try my best to make it as stunning as possible.” When you start to doubt what the purpose of life is, you are already on the path with a brand-new horizon to see things differently ever since.  The beauty of ordinary things ” When my mum and dad kissed, that's happiness.” In Clara’s eyes, happiness is a simple matter which success or wealth are just smoke and mirrors blocking your view from judging what truly matters to you. It is essential to purse meaning of life, however, be careful not to be trapped in the sugar coating. “Listening to the waves by the sea, seeing my dog enjoying its food, looking at my mom’s smile…these are my definition of happiness.” Our lives may not be filled with dramas, thrills or heroes, but if you stop and look around, you will find those ordinary things in our daily lives are actually shining bright.

"WHAT IS HAPPINESS? COULD BE JUST BAG OF SPICY-FLAVOURED CRIPS” — TATTOO APPRENTICE MORGAN

What is the definition of happiness? Being in a loving relationship? Being famous and successful? Being healthy and safe? Sometimes, happiness is nothing more than a bag of crisp. Tattoo Apprentice Morgan honestly said that life is hard and so as trying, but all you need is remembering those little things in life that make you happy and at some point, you will think to yourself that “ah, maybe I can hang in there for a bit longer.”      Life is hard but happiness is not    “Since I’m an adult, life is really annoying and I can’t say that I enjoy it a lot.” Morgan is brutally honest that from scale 1 to 10, her happiness index is 4 only. Adulthood is full of restraints and apart from her family, boyfriend and colleagues, there are not many things that she can recall as memorable joyful moments. “The reason for feeling blue is usually because of myself, sort of feeling incompetent for example.” It may sound cynical but it is also a reflection of the generation. The complexity and harshness in this world leave us no choice but to be tough but deep inside, there is still a teen who can be easily fulfilled. To Morgan, eating something tasty(spicy-flavoured crisps and cheesecakes are her comfort food),playing SimCity, looking at cool tattoo designs bring her the best comfort. Simple and wholesome.      Be a dedicated person    One can only be disappointed when he has pursuits. Once a lost person, Morgan now can talk about her dreams with a determined smile. “ I wish to be a tattoo artist that I can approve of before the end of the world.” Before she is devoted to that, she spent her days idly for a while. She wanted to make something out of herself but nothing could motivate her. “I actually considered myself lucky as my family doesn’t require any financial support from me. I could have finished my uni study abroad and then found a decent job and do whatever I want but the problem is, I couldn’t find out what I want to do.” Those lost days ended when she fell in love with tattoo art last year but without her full commitment, she nearly ended her career path before it has even started and that’s when she realised that she can no longer be irresponsible. “Being responsible is such a headache but I still want to work on that and be a dedicated person.” While she’s complaining "how nice it would be to live without obligations for the entire life”, she is also creating her own path with her own hands, slowly and purposefully.        Before the arrival of the last day    Many people are into fortune-telling, checking horoscope or even reading books about the Chinese zodiac. Besides the desire to understand yourself a bit better, the act also comes from a combination of excitement and fear for the future. If tomorrow is the last day of your life, how would you spend it? A simple and adorable idea came to Morgan in a flash of inspiration “If I die tomorrow, I will want to stay at home instead of working. Oh, I can get the whole game pack of SimCity and also eat a lot. Basically, it’s all about having fun and eating.” Back to the initial question: What is happiness? She frankly said that she has no idea. “Actually being happy is easy but when you want to be the “happiest”, you have to do the thing that you aspire the most “I haven’t been there yet so I am not sure how that feels.” If there is a biography based on her life, the tile would be Life is Exhausting But Here We Go, she jokingly said. Well, it sounds like a potential bestseller since it is so relatable.

"HAPPINESS IS NOT NECESSARILY A RESULT OF GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS BUT AT LEAST IT MEANS THAT YOU DON'T SPEND YOUR DAYS WITHOUT PURPOSES." — INDEPENDENT RECORD DIRECTOR GARY LEONG

Hong Kong is known for its limited space and crazily high rent so buying property is undoubtedly challenging, not to mention how critical it is for independent shops — under the real estate hegemony, surviving is already a blessing for them but somehow that is probably why the rebels exist and they refuse to accept the way it is. Local independent record shop White Noise Records’ director, Gary, is one of them. In this overly materialistic world, he chose to be true to himself, insist on the things that he is passionate about and refuses to be an ordinary soul.   The reason to be happy or not: People Gary founded White Noise with his friends sixteen years ago. Besides collecting indie records from all over the world, they also arrange foreign indie bands to perform in Hong Kong and manage local bands. White Noise is definitely more than a record shop. In terms of happiness, Gary thinks it’s all related to people — chatting about music with customers who share the same interest is his “happy time”. Vice versa, people are the reason why he is feeling down sometimes “I meet all kinds of people in the shop every day and my emotions go up and down depends on our interactions.” he explained. When he feels confused and upset, he plays uplifting music “Something that makes you feel comfortable or something that you like, my emotions will settle down pretty quickly.”     A cloakroom for dreams There is a saying “Thick in dreams, bony in reality” Apart from the fact that reality seldom meets our expectation, there are many things that you simply cannot achieve no matter how much hard work and passion you input. “Despite the dream of being a musician, I found that not every person can be one and I’m not a good fit. That’s when I started to think what I’m capable of and look for my role for that. Therefore, Gary decided to open a record shop, introduce indie music to people, assist musicians in marketing and all the things related to music. Even though Gary thinks he is not gifted as a musician, he chose to help others to complete their musical dream. He feels the joy when being involved and the enjoyment turns into a sense of mission gradually. On the path of trying and failing, please keep in mind that we will eventually find our own way one day.     The most important little things “People chase after so many things and work so hard just to have a nice life.” In Gary’s idea, a good life doesn’t require luxuries or a loaded bank account, it depends on the way you see your everyday life. “It’s really simple for me, my daily life starts with a tasty breakfast, enjoy work and that makes me happy.” Of course not everyone has the same idea of an ideal life but our pursuits of happiness are mutual. To be able to enjoy life or not depends on the way you deal with it.     Happiness is reserved in the future To Gary, happiness is from the future. “We often don’t realize that we are happy at the moment even when we are enjoying it, we need to throwback to recognize that is happiness.” When you remember that you once were innocent and fearless, it might encourage your present self to be a little bit braver. “If many things in life are too well-thought, there is no pleasure in it.” He said that happiness is not necessarily a result of great achievements but at least it means that you don’t spend your days without purposes.

MICHELIN CHEF DANIEL BIRKNER JOINS #HAPI TO CREATA EXQUISITE DISHES THAT LOOK LIKE TRAVELING AROUND THE WORLD

As the epidemic stabilized, the dining service finally resumed and we could finally meet with relatives and friends in the restaurant at night time. With the reactivation of the world, we are happy to share that our new Michelin chef Daniel Birkner has officially joined #HAPi this month. With his years of experience and professional skills, he has created delicate dishes like globetrotting. Before visiting #HAPi kitchen, let know more about the charisma of our new chef. Born into a family where food was very much valued, with a trained chef as father and younger brother. Daniel gained his very first experience and recipe taught by his grandmother; her famous split pea soup. Later he could “help out” in the restaurant run by his father before entering into internships followed by years of apprenticeship in Germany. “At a very early age I knew that cooking will be my inspiration and career” – says Daniel, to whom music and art are secondary sources for inspiration and the counterbalance to his work life. Indulging and being grounded in pieces by his favorite composer Johann Sebastian Bach, while playing the organ or piano, or just listening are the perfect way to relax and free one’s mind.      After the first junior positions and a cooking stint for the officers with the German Army, the travelling years started and led to exciting opportunities throughout Europe. After years of experience, he returned and opened his own Michelin awarded Restaurant “Herr B.” in his hometown. Following the call of love in 2013, he moved to Hong Kong and worked with Harbour Grand North Point at their top floor restaurant “Le188”, Restaurant Zurriola in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels at the prestigious Hong Kong Club. During his time in Hong Kong, Daniel was offered the presidency for the Hong Kong delegation of the respected, chef driven culinary association “Disciples Escoffier International”, a position which he held for more than three years until moving to Taiwan taking on the challenging opportunity of joining the pre-opening team for the new Marriott Kaohsiung. While every status of Daniel has given him many remarkable experiences, he can apply all of them in every job in the future.   Question time – Talk with #HAPi new chef Q: What was the experience of being the presidency for the Hong Kong delegation of the respected, chef driven culinary association “Disciples Escoffier International”? A: It was a challenging and exciting time at the helm of the delegation. Having taken over after a tumultuous time, we reset the membership base, structured new events and grew the members base and participants for events massively. The feedback for the events we did was overwhelming. If i wouldn’t have moved to Taiwan I probably would still be doing it. The connections, meetings and events were all very rewarding, especially the young chef competitions where one of the credos of Escoffier, to transfer knowledge and skills, was perfectly executed.    Q: What is your cooking philosophy? A: Product focus with as little manipulation as possible but as much as needed to present ingredients and a dish in the best possible way.   Q: Can u share some the story of your Michelin awarded Restaurant “Herr B.” in Germany? e.g. Type of restaurant it is etc… A: “Herr B.” (standing for Mr. B.) my nickname for staff, friends and in the local restaurant scene, was my second restaurant and as clear from the name, dear to my heart and connected to me. Everything there was me, in the restaurant and on the plate. I had people working for me that were on the same wavelength as me and could deliver my message as best as even possible. A pure joy to work with such a great team. Situated in a 1920 old central park villa, we offered fine dining, banquets, garden with terrace and event space for any host. I closed it when I moved to HK in 2013, which was a shame as the city lost the only other fine dining place shortly before our closure and of course my team would have loved to continue.   Q: Following the call of love in 2013, a romantic story! You are Globetrotter Chef! As a world-class Michelin awarded Chef, why do you choose HK as home? A: I chose HK because my partner, whom i met here in 2012 is local. We visited each other in the months to follow and then decided that I’ll move to HK as it would be probably easier for me to settle here than for him in Germany. Even though I am not together with him anymore, I never regretted it to have moved here. I love the city, the people, the food and just the fact that I live in HK.   Q: How do you interpret the concept  of "Around the world” in your menu? A: Making use of my experiences from the places I lived and worked at, have travelled to and simply combine those.   Q: What is your inspiration of the menu design for #HAPi? A: Initially very practically. What is physically possible due to kitchen size, team size, experience etc. Operating a restaurant for four meal periods is a challenge in itself already, under the current circumstances and guidelines even more though. Add in the expectations of the owner and management and you’ll get filled out days for sure. For the rest, see number 6.   Q: What does cooking bring to your life? A: Cooking is life, food is life! Gather your friends or family at a table, serve food that is cooked with heart and that you’d love to eat yourself, and experience the magic! Our home always has a big kitchen and big table, as the best time is always spend around the kitchen and food.   Q: Music and art are secondary sources for inspiration and the counterbalance to your work life, do u have any idea or plan for a fusion of “Cuisine” & “ Music” in your future plan? A: I love food and I love music. And I respect both very much. So much so, that I’d love to focus on just one. Background music is always there, but not important! If you think about it, do you ever remember the music being played in a restaurant? Only when the food is bad or the atmosphere lacks something. But certainly music wouldn’t always be the key to that. Serious music would be a waste to be played with food. I’d personally rather appreciate a good meal without music or a piece of classic on its own. Having mixed evenings where food is appreciated and the music, or the other way around  would more be something I’d be inclined to go through with. But this is certainly a challenging position I have here and an uncomfortable opinion to have; but who likes main stream anyway!?    Q: What is happiness? A: Coming home, hugging my partner and getting head bumps from my cats! Coffee, cake and ice cream in the sunshine.  Listening to J.S. Bach Passacaglia and Fugue in C-Moll (Minor) BWV 582. Making it through a busy restaurant day with the entire team in full swing and accord! The rush at the end of the day, amazing!

"YOU WILL FINALLY FIND THE ANSWER FROM YOURSELF INSTEAD OF OTHERS." — MODERN FENG SHUI MASTER THIERRY CHOW

Old school, superstition, conservative… These are the common descriptions of Feng Shui in nowadays society. Theirry Chow, a new generation of Feng Shui master, has attracted public’s attention with her fashionable style. She breaks through the tradition by merging art and design into Feng Shui philosophy with a view to reconstructing a new image on Feng Shui among the new generation.     Superstition is merely an attitude Feng Shui is always seen as a superstition which is designed for the older generation or businessman. Thierry had the same thought when she was small even if her father was also a Feng Shui master. However, she began to comprehend that Feng Shui was a complicated knowledge with wisdom behind when she started learning Feng Shui at the age of 23. “Superstition is only an attitude, a behaviour of being too obsessed or blindly believing in something, instead of a problem related to industry.” She’s having a different interpretation on superstition from the social standard now. After graduating from design institute and being a designer, Thierry has finally come to the same path as her father which she believed it was all related to destiny. The reason that triggered Thierry to learn Feng Shui was that she has seen the potential of this industry which a new trend has been shaped with increasing popularity of Feng Shui metaphysics among the young generation nowadays. Besides, it is also related to her rebellious personality. “I will insist on my decision even coming across lots of obstacles. Therefore, I will try to promote Feng Shui in an innovative way instead of the traditional one.” Talking about how to choose the right Feng Shui master, Thierry emphasised feeling and destiny like making friends. “ Many people choose a Feng Shui master who makes them feel comfortable or those who they can communicate with. But trying to be a better you or be more positive is the most important thing before choosing a Feng Shui master.” Theirry said.     Feng Shui master lied to you for more than eight years? It is all related to your attitude. Being the avant-garde in the Feng Shui industry, it seems to be her responsibility to rehabilitate the profession of Feng Shui Master. For the source of the ancient statement “ Feng Shui master lied to you for more than eight years.”, Thierry explained that it was an usual practice to hire a Feng Shui master for more than ten years in the past which was similar to the concept of family doctor. However, with the rapid development of technology, it is easy to look for different Feng Shui masters and choose the most suitable one for yourself now. She also emphasised that lying is unrelated to occupation if you are deliberately lying to someone. It seems to be easy to say but she understands that it is quite hard to convince people which she sees cultivating a positive image for Feng Shui in the public as a long-term project. Thierry hopes to be involved in TV shows  to gain more exposure in the younger generation with more persuasive before & after effect.     Learning self-love in the chaos Thierry said she will name her book as 《How To Be Yourself》to record her spiritual journey if she has the chance to publish a book. Facing lots of negativity in Hong Kong, Thierry mentioned the importance of embracing changes. “Changing is common sense. While living in the world with infinite variables, we have to learn to embrace changes, especially in 2021.” Thierry said.  Actually, changes happen every day. Sometimes changes are so subtle that people don’t care too much, therefore, when coming across big changes, people will panic easily. Thierry suggested the significance of observing tiny changes to learn how to cope with unexpected situations. Observations and being kind to yourself is the path to gain the ability to love and help others.     Happiness is not the same as forcing yourself to be happy Talking about the level of happiness, Thierry thought she was on the level of 9. “The reason for not getting full marks is that I wish everyone would understand that everything has two sides. No one’s life is 100% happy, so allowing yourself to be sad when you are depressed.” Thierry said. She thought her source of happiness was helping people as a listener. She would do meditation and chanting to calm herself when she was depressed. Also, listening to music and drawing would make her feel released too.     Love is the most powerful While being asked “What is happiness?”, “Love” Thierry answered without hesitation. She thought  love was the most powerful energy in the world which was always the solution to every matter or emotion. “You have to find the way to love yourself before knowing how to love others. You are always the only solution.” Thierry said.

WORK FROM HOME RULE NO.1 : PAJAMAS IS FORBIDDEN — LOCAL VINTAGE BRAND NEVER WEAP PAJAMAS,

A bold afro hairstyle and vintage outfit were the symbol of Amber Tsui in the past which have led her to become a popular model in Hong Kong. After a few years, she has already changed her hairstyle to wavy hair and her position from front stage to backstage by establishing her own vintage fashion brand Never Wear Pajamas,.     A sense of ritual of Never Wear Pajamas, By sharing Amber’s sense of ritual of high quality lifestyle with self-control, Amber has titled her brand name as Never Wear Pajamas,. It was totally inspired by her Work From Home life which she has set up a rule for herself by not wearing pajamas. “Wearing pajamas will make people even more less energetic. Therefore, I would like to apply this concept to different scenarios that everyone should be 100% involved in that atmosphere whatever you are doing.” Amber explained. While the comma at the end of the brand name means to be continued. At the first stage of establishing a brand, Never Wear Pajamas, started it’s journey by selling vintage clothes. But Amber wished that the brand can be more dynamic in the future and surrounded by everything picked by her. She believed that you can only do something well if you are really interested in it to convince others.     From Model to Vintage Shop Owner From model to become an owner of a vintage shop, Amber said the path of becoming a model was all by mistake. “I studied fashion design in the past and I was always attracted by many things that I wished to try. Therefore, I still cope with friends I met from school days after graduating to achieve different projects to deal with our curiosity.” Amber said. Curiosity has expanded her social circle which has led her to an adventure of being a model. “I am quite lucky that being able to draw the public's attention with my afro hairstyle and make friends from different positions or occupations, these can help me to develop my career easier cause people from this industry are always willing to help each other which I can find infinite possibilities in such a small social circle. I find it quite exciting and challenging.” Amber shared. Stepping into a complicating and fast pacing fashion industry, Amber was quite fortunate to find her position and stability in this area. She has met lots of talented friends which has triggered her to come across a lot of unexpected adventure and experience. “Even some weird requirements suggested by the clients like up the mountain and down the sea or eating the same food crazily, for me, these are quite interesting and challenging which I enjoy a lot.” Amber shared happily.         There is no shortcut to become successful In Hong Kong, there is a blurring boundary between models and KOL which many people may think being a model is an entrance ticket of being an artist. Amber thought whether you could become a successful model all depends on how much you insisted in this industry. “Expanding your career internationally as a Hong Kong model is not a whimsical thing. Elaine Kwok, who has successfully become a Gucci model was a role model. Therefore, it all depends on how hard working you are and how clear you focus on your goal instead of being distracted by other factors.” Amber explained. She added that being a fashion model seems to be glamorous, however, it is not as easy as expected at the practical level. “As a full-time model in Hong Kong, it is quite hard to be able to support your daily life as many brands prefer hiring popular KOL or celebrities to draw the public's attention. Also, the salary from normal campaign or look book shooting is not as high as commercial shooting.  This is also one of the reasons why many people quit this industry.” Amber sighed. She thought there were many talents in Hong Kong but most of them were limited by many frames. Even though coming across lots of obstacles and hard times, Amber thought doing the things she loved made everything valuable which her level of happiness was 8 out of 10. “I am surrounded by lots of love and support which is the happiest thing in my life. While the rest of 2 marks are the room for improvement.” Amber said.     Conversation is the way to release Even born to be optimistic, everyone has ups and downs in life. Amber thought conversation was the best medicine to deal with being lost or overthinking. “First of all, I would try to find the source of sadness and write it down. If things didn’t get better, I would try to talk to somebody to release my negative emotion.” Amber shared. For the pursuit of her life, Amber thought everyone needed to spend their whole life to look for the most comfortable status. “Before doing anything, you have to ask yourself if you feel comfortable with it or not, it is the guideline to not making yourself regret and be a better you. If I will launch a book about my life, I think it will be a diary to record every step and stage of my life which will be quite interesting.” Amber said. At last, when Amber was asked about her interpretation of happiness, she immediately thought of love, it’s all about love.

"TIN KAU GAME AND PATIENTS" A STORY OF TURNING DREAM INTO REALITY – THE TIN KAU CLUB

Talking about Tin Kau, most people may immediately think of gambling. In fact, Tin Kau is the same as mahjong which is a game striving for strategy, memory and luck. However, the popularity of Tin Kau is decreasing which is almost lost in transmission in Hong Kong. Observing the situation of Tin Kau, a group of young people who are attracted by Tin Kau has established The Tin Kau Club. They claimed themselves as “patient” to introduce Tin Kau to younger generation by launching their designer products and holding exhibitions as they have the same belief of re-developing and promoting the culture of Tin Kau. Occasionally, #HAPi is honoured to invite the founder of The Tin Kau Club, Wallace and Yanky, to share their story about Tin Kau and patients, their story of making dreams become reality. It’s never too insane to chase your dream.     Doing Bullshit Jobs Seriously Recalling the motivation of establishing The Tin Kau Club, it’s totally because of fun. They found that there were lots of obstacles to gathering due to lockdown, therefore, looking for fun at home was the best way to consume quality time with friends. And this was how they learned Tin Kau and how The Tin Kau Club was born. Being “Patients” of the The Tin Kau Club, they have contributed to the brand by performing their strengths like Yanky responded to graphic design while others are in charge of composing music or copywriting. “It’s difficult to find participants to play Tin Kau as it is not common in our age. So we will try to promote Tin Kau in a more innovative way in order to boost people’s interest in this game with our products.” Wallace said. They thought Tin Kau was far more than a game, it was a culture that was being ignored from time to time. Talking about culture, Yanky has expressed her anger with the way the government conducted culture preservation which they put more concern on benefit instead of the core value, transmitting the culture to the future generation.   Tin Kau Is Not Gambling The reason why Tin Kau is always being categorized as gambling is because of the stereotype from some movies scenes in the past. “We’ve got no control on how people interpret the game, but we hope they can try to see Tin Kau in a new perspective which is totally unrelated to money.” The wisdom behind Tin Kau is about Cathay culture, the knowledge of the harmony of people and earth and the 24 solar terms which is extremely more complicated than expected. Yanky said they would like to think out of the box and try something new to promote the tradition boldly. “If you think I’m insane, then I’ll be the silliest person in the world trying new things that are not existing in the world. What if you are as insane as me, then we can be friends.”      Ice Breaking of Two Generation  Looking back to the most memorable thing of establishing The Tin Kau Club, they mentioned the unexpected impact on people's connection. “I’ve got a friend who’s father loved playing Tin Kau very much but refused to share it to his daughter due to the social stereotypes. One day, I taught my friend to play Tin Kau and gave our designed Tin Kau Tee to her father. It has unexpectedly become the source of ice breaking of their father-daughter relationship.” Wallace shared. “Her father never imagined that Tin Kau could be the bonding between him and his daughter which he found that he was wrong in the past.” Wallace continued and brought out the importance of living in the moment which made him reflect that the most important motto of doing design is to shorten the distance between people.   For Yanky, the most remarkable story from The Tin Kau Club was a couple took the initiative to learn Tin Kau right before they migrated to Canada as they wished to share this culture to people who lived in Canada. “I find it very touching as I’ve never imagined that this new form of transmission could persuade people to share this culture worldwide.” Yanky was impressed. People’s connection is very wonderful that you never know how powerful your behaviour is to somebody’s life.  Are You Happy? Evaluating the level of happiness, they thought they were in the range of 8-9. “Overall is positive. But I’m quite stubborn sometimes and not satisfied with my performance. This may easily trigger me to be trapped into a negative emotion.” Yanky said. For Wallace, ignoring the social issue, he thought his wife, Yanky, was the biggest source of his happiness. “We both know the importance of each other’s life. There are ups and downs in life, but everything becomes valuable when you know what is the most important thing in life.” He claimed. It is unnecessary to make life too complicated. Doing the most important thing that comes to your mind when you wake up every day and satisfied with what you have, it’s more than enough for not letting yourself regret.   “Are you happy?” Seems to be a simple question, but people used to forget tiny things in life easily. “Even my parents or me wouldn’t ask myself this question, but Wallace was the first person who asked me choose to be happy cause nothing is more important than this.” Yanky said. Wallace mentioned that Yanky had many frames in her mind that limited her creativity or ability but all the frames were built by others. Therefore, he hoped that she could learn to break through the frames and create her way of living instead of following the crowds. When feeling depressed, they’ve got their own solutions to release. Yanky likes drawing to detox her mind and enjoying the moment of eating or sleeping, while Wallace prefers reading, listening to music and driving. “Driving is able to build up a personal space and get full control of my pace. At the same time, I can listen to my favourite songs and feel the wind like a scene in a music video. Man likes an idiot that simple things can make us feel satisfied easily.” Wallace shared.   What Is Happiness? Yanky understood that relationships built up by a game was the purest happiness in life through Tin Kau. “As we grow up, interpersonal relationships become complicated with lots of considerations and doubt, but playing Tin Kau can allow us to ignore all the utility factors and truly enjoy the interactions with players.” Yanky said. Living in the generation that prefers texting more than face to face interaction, people’s conversation skills tend to be weakened. But Tin Kau has accidentally become the bridge between Yanky and the older generation. “Old people don't know how to show their love even though they care about you a lot due to the generation gap. But Tin Kau has become the language that I can show my caring to my grandmother.” For Wallace, he has gradually found that “sharing” what he loves to strangers with common interest is extremely happy. At the same time, if their design is being respected or appreciated, there will be extra happiness. “In the future, what if righteousness is being manifested, I think everyone will feel the truest happiness, not only me.” Wallace claimed. If they can write a book about their life, they will give a title to the book like a series of stories about the Cathay wisdom: “Harmony of People and Earth” & “Balance of Pen and Sword”. In the near future, Yanky will concentrate on prompting Tin Kau continuously. “The positive feedback of establishing the club is quite unpredictable which some people will message us about the strategy and their thoughts on Tin Kau. Hope that one day youngsters from 18 districts will love this game.” Yanky placed hope on her brand. “For me, Tin Kau is not only a game, it is a wisdom that is valuable to be transmitted. It’s fine that you don’t like it, but you cannot miss it.” Wallace shared his interpretation of Tin Kau. Talking about the future, Wallace wishes to have more spaces and opportunities for creation. In long term, he imagines his life will be consummation if her grandson or granddaughter knows how to play this game. While Tin Kau is a bridge to connect people, it is also a path to make Wallace and Yanky’s dream comes true.

"ONE'S HAPPINESS IS LINELINESS." — NOEL CHU,WEDDING DRESS DESINGER

People work so hard to strive for a better quality of life. After working for a number of years, finally reaching the “harvest period” that is dedicated to enjoy life., but some people still refuse to stop . Coming to the second half of life, it is another beginning of a wonderful story. Graduated from Sociology and Law faculty, Noel Chu has occasionally been involved in the wedding industry to take over the family business by doing transformation and reform. After working for 20 years, she started considering infinite possibilities beyond wedding dress. In 2021, she established her first ready-to-wear fashion brand, Beyond the Dress, started a new adventure.     The worst case in life is you are so poor that only leaving behind money   “As I studied Sociology, I wished to merge community and fashion together.” Noel laughed and said that she was getting old and thought about the worst case in life was so poor that only leaving behind money. Therefore, she hoped to cultivate a small community with the power of Beyond the Dress to share happiness and aesthetic in life with each other. “People have been striving for so long that it's worth enjoying the results to make yourself healthier, happier and prettier. Happiness is not as simple as expected, so I am still looking for different formulas to let women treat themselves better.” Noel shared. Learning to spoil yourself is one of the life practices.  The wedding market in Hong Kong was small yet competitive. Recalling the challenges she has come across, Noel was so impressed that she could overcome them. “Many places like Korea, Japan, Europe, Taiwan, USA or even Israel, would like to enter the Hong Kong market. Thus, many local brands always came across lots of international challenges. But maybe because I was not a fashion design student, I wouldn’t be keen on certain styles. Clients were my inspiration, for me, if they looked beautiful by wearing my wedding dress, I would define it as a successful design.” Noel said. Compared to earning money, Noel preferred connecting with people more which the reason behind launching Beyond the Dress was becoming the bonding with her old clients. For Noel, clients were friends of hers. She laughed and said that she wouldn’t hope that her clients would come to request another wedding dress again. So Beyond the Dress has become the bridge between her and her clients.      I win by knowing myself will lose   “Dream chasing” seems to be eager because every step of becoming successful was extremely tough. Talking about starting a business, Noel thought she’s never confident about that. “Actually I won in the beginning because I knew I would lose. I expected this collection would not be profitable, but I would earn the experience and relationship. What if there were only one customer buying my product, if she felt happy with wearing it, I would be successful.” She claimed. Besides, supporting her talented team to chase their dreams was another reason for establishing the brand. “I wish to support people around me with what I owned. Happiness is the most important thing in life. Only if my team was happy and proud, it was a victory.” She said Hongkongers nowadays are so depressed without hope, or even wanted to leave this place. But she believed that good things were always here. What we needed to do was observe the tiny things in life to look for happiness that has long lost.      There were still many things worth of happiness in the world   “Many Hongkongers were unhappy that always feeling stressed with family and work.” Noel sighed. Especially when women were getting old, they may feel they were losing their charm and attraction. Thus, she would like to design some items to women to let them feel confident again. “I wish that when they wear our clothes, people will think they look different. I hope people will find the power of making themselves feel happy and confident.” Noel shared. The first collection of Beyond the Dress was Power of Unseen, wishing to remind people there were lots of joyfulness in life that were ignored like love, music, nature or even breath. Everything is a fortune.      Live like 1 years old when you are 51   Rating her level of happiness, Noel thought she got 7. “I was 51 years old this year, I’ve got a totally new perspective on life after 50. It felt like a totally new life starting from 0. I was like a 1 years old child to learn something new without any burden.” She laughed. Noel has become leisurely with her previous experience. She said everything was not inevitable and didn’t know whether she was worth all those support around her. “For me, I don’t need to chase for any fame and wealth now cause I have already gained a lot of relationships. In my religion, 7 is a perfect number which God spent 7 days to create the world. Hence, I am not greedy to ask for something more.” Noel shared. We also learnt a lesson on the day we interviewed with Noel which was learning to be happy with forgiveness. “Love is the most powerful weapon. When I came across sadness, I would choose to love that person. The more you hate that person, the more you should love them. As I think they are so poor that nobody like them, so I will love them and problem will be solved.” Noel said. Compared to receiving something from others, she wanted to learn to bless others to make a better world. “I think I am so carefree that nothing can scare me now. I don’t have anything need to pursuit, thus, I don’t have any burden now.” Noel was satisfied with her life. She thought happiness was bringing other’s happiness as one’s happiness without people to share was loneliness. As she didn’t have her own children, her motto was to love people. “People may think I don’t feel upset, actually I’ve got so many troubles in life. But I know how to digest everything, therefore, I’ve got 7 points of happiness. I hope to share my perception with others, when they feel unhappy, they can make use of it.” Noel shared. Unsatisfactory things happen all the time, but whether fortune or misfortune, may be just a matter of thought.

Time flies, #HAPI has been opening for a few months already. Besides the select shop which provides a large variety choice of products, the #HAPi restaurant next to window side is equally adored by our customers. To name our most loved dishes, seafood risotto and apple tart must be on the list. The former is made of a dozen kinds of seafood freshly imported from foreign countries and the latter is just about right on the sweetness and tartness. Both dishes really reflect the chef’s skills. After months of preparation, we decided to launch our brand new menu — #HApi Breakfast in October as the autumn vibe is getting real.       #HAPi Fine Dinning Breakfast     #HAPi thinks it is important for everyone to start their day with a full and tasty breakfast. Hence, our chef from Mauritius had the idea of bringing the concept of Bistronomie (Gastronomie + Bistro) to Hong Kong. In other words, it means combining fine dining into the menu which explains our 5 original and deluxe breakfast — Blue Lobster Egg Benedict Buckwheat, Grill Cauliflower Steak Champagne Sauce , Bruschetta Foie Gras Terrine , Abalone Onion Condiment, Snow Egg Black Truffle, French Toast Soy Cream Praline Sauce.
